This Is Real And You Are Completely Unprepared
A Practice-Oriented Book Group in Preparation for the High Holy Days
While many partake in the High Holy Days annually, there may be a sense that its meaning and direct relevance to our lives is elusive. Rabbi Alan Lew elucidates “the unseen depths” of our High Holiday traditions bringing forth its “deepest existential wisdom” in his now classic book, “This Is Real And You Are Completely Unprepared.”
Through Torah texts, Jewish fables, stories from his own life, and Buddhist parables, Rabbi Lew helps us understand the purpose in this annual passage that has the potential to leave us deeply enriched and even transformed.
In preparation for the High Holy Days, please join me in a practice-oriented reading group where we will discuss Rabbi Lew’s book and practice short, guided meditations to help us integrate what we are discovering. Prompts for journaling in between sessions will be offered. Together we can deepen our experience of the upcoming holidays so that something new is awakened, bringing us into deeper connection with ourselves and one another.
Meetings will be Aug 29th, Sept. 12th and 19th, 6:45pm - 8:00 pm via Zoom. Zoom link provided with registration confirmation.
About the instructor: Allison Miller is a temple member, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and Yoga - Meditation Teacher. This series is freely offered in the spirit of Terumah.
